Ransomware attacks in 2019

This article is about the increasing of cyberattack in 2019. It was written by Allen Kim for CNN Business. According to the cybersecurityu firm Recorded Future, 140 attacks were made during 2019 targeting local government, school and hospital.

To penetrate a network, the easiest way for hackers is to use phishing attack. The goal is to send an e-mail to a people in a company with a malicious link or a file attached. Then the virus encrypts your files and asks for a ransom in Bitcoin if you want your data back. Ransomware is continuing to growing and is very difficult to fight.

The principal target of the hackers is the hospital. When there are life in danger, the victim are more willing to pay the ransom. The DCH Health System in West Alabama was attacked in 2019. The hospital had to decline new patients incoming.

In 2018, 1493 victims were reported. The total losses is estimated at $3,621,857. The number of attacks decrease but the losses increase. Allan Liska, a senior solution architect at Recorded Future, warn on the fact that ransomware can be only a distraction carried out by nation state attackers.

Finally, the American will have to be careful with the future election because the vote system can also be vulnerable to ransomware.
